Abstract

Abstract

In this study, the discriminant validity of the Anadolu-Sak Intelligence Scale (ASIS) was investi- gated for clinical and special education groups. ASIS provides measures of general intelligence, verbal in- telligence, nonverbal intelligence and memory capac- ity. It is used both in clinical and educational settings for making decisions about a child’s intellectual ca- pacities. ASIS was developed based on the Cattell- Horn-Carroll intelligence model. It is administered to children of 4 to 12 year-old. ASIS assessments can be used both in educational settings and in clinical set- tings for intervention purposes. In the study, ASIS was administered to children who were identified with a special need. The research group included chil- dren with high ability (N=41), intellectual disability (N=48), attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (N=15), learning disability (SLD) (N=21) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) (N=32). Children’s scores were compared with norm data. The mean gen- eral intelligence as measured by the ASIS was found to be 137.90 for the high ability group, 47.18 for intel- lectual disability, 81.86 for ADHD, 86.76 for SLD and 63.09 for ASD. Participants’ ASIS total test and sub- test scores were found to be within the score range of special education groups. The results show a strong support for the discriminant validity of the ASİS. Sonuçlar ASİS’in özel eğitim grupları için ayırtediciliğinin yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir.
