Abstract
Parents often experience challenges in their communication with their gifted children because gifted chil- dren have extraordinary needs. The purpose of this experimental study was to examine the effect of a psychoeducational program on the communication between parents and their gifted children. The study involved thirty-two parents of gifted students who were enrolled in a private school. The experimental group received a six-week psycheducational training program. The Parent-Child Communication Scale and Afat Parent Awareness Scale were used to collect data. Findings showed that the training program had an impact on the quality of communication between parents and their gifted children in the experimental group. Parents in the control group did not demon- strate a similar improvement.
Öz
Üstün yetenekli çocukların kendilerine özgü ihtiyaç- larının olması ebeveynlerin üstün yetenekli çocukla- rıyla iletişim kurmalarında zorluk yaşamalarına se- bep olabilmektedir. Bu araştırma, ebeveyn-çocuk iletişimini geliştirmeye yönelik hazırlanan psiko-eğitim programının, üstün yetenekli çocukların ebeveynleri- nin iletişim becerileri üzerindeki etkisinin incelendiği deneysel bir çalışmadır. Araştırma kapsamında üstün yetenekli çocuğu olan ebeveynlerden rastgele seçilen 16’şar kişilik deney ve kontrol grupları oluşturulmuş ve deney grubuna araştırma kapsamında geliştirilen altı haftalık psikoeğitim programı uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada ölçme araçları olarak Ebeveynin Çocu- ğuyla İletişimi Ölçeği ve Afat Ebeveyn Farkındalıkları Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları, hazırlanan eğitim programının ebeveynlerin iletişim becerileri üzerinde etkili olduğunu göstermiştir.
