Distributed generation brings many challenges to distribution networks with respect to efficient power flow and acceptable voltage profiles because of the intermittent nature of distributed power generation. Traditional methods of optimization usually optimize for just one of these goals, causing greater losses in the system and voltage off balance. A mathematical optimization approach for coordinated power flow and voltage regulation in Renewable Distribution Systems is presented in this paper. The problem is modeled as a constrained optimization problem with power balance, voltage and operational constraints and is solved in MATLAB, MATPOWER and YALMIP on the IEEE 33-bus distribution system. The simulation results show that the proposed method achieves an effective and efficient solution for the operation of renewable distribution network with the following advantages: 1) The total active power loss from 202.8 kW to 145.6 kW (28.2%), also the minimum bus voltage is improved from 0.908 p.u. to 0.949 p.u., and 2) the maximum voltage deviation is decreased by 44.6%, while the usage of renewable energy is increased from 68.0% to 80.5% and reduce the computational time by 23.2%.
